Constitutional position

The Ombudsman is a High Council of State anchored in Article 71 of the Constitution of Curaçao. The Ombudsman supervises the propriety of conduct of administrative authorities. As a High Council of State, the Ombudsman enjoys constitutional independence from the Government. This independent position is reflected, among other things, in the fact that a High Council of State independently decides on its own budget and does not require prior approval from the government.
