The Children's Ombudsman

Every child has the right to a safe childhood, to opportunities for development, and to a voice that is heard.

The Children's Ombudsman

The Children's Ombudsman serves all children and young people in Curaçao. One guiding principle always applies: the best interest of the child comes first. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) serves as the compass. That convention identifies three fundamental children's rights: protection, provisions, and the opportunity to participate.

Supervision and support

The Children's Ombudsman ensures that the government, schools and all other organizations working with children respect children’s rights. Children and young people are given the opportunity to make their voices heard. The Children's Ombudsman also provides guidance and support to adults in effectively safeguarding and promoting children's rights.

Improvement and strengthening

In addition, the Children's Ombudsman actively works on promoting children's rights, this is done, among other things, by raising awareness in the community, collaborating with partners and other stakeholders, and by providing advice and educational information.
